The "Wings of Spring: A Celebration of Literacy" on Monday night raised $270,000 for VMLC with a sold-out reception and recital at Arlington Hall in Lee Park. Attendees enjoyed a cocktail reception and were entertained by the musical trio Time for Three – the world’s first classically-trained garage band.
At the Monday night event, Marnie Wildenthal was honored as the recipient of the Literacy Legacy Award. According to Sarah Papert, Executive Director of VMLC, “Marnie has been a dedicated volunteer teacher at VMLC since 2002 and has impacted the lives of countless individuals, helping them improve their lives with the gift of English literacy. Her volunteer service to VMLC has been unmatched.” Marnie has also served three terms on the Board of Directors, and served as Board President in 2011-2012. Marnie has impacted the lives of countless individuals, helping them improve their lives with the gift of English literacy.
Wings of Spring: A Celebration of Literacy was organized by Beth Gold, Committee Chair and Ashley Coleman, Co-Chair. In Monday night’s opening remarks, VMLC Board President Gayle Johansen shared with the audience the story of her father’s journey to America 100 years ago adding, “Today, VMLC students are working hard to provide their families a future filled with hope and promise, just as my own father did for my family.”
